We have many wonderful mature bassets available that would like to share their love and playfulness with you!
SHERLOCK

“Hello, Sherlock here, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am approx 9 years young and still playful. Do ya want to race or play ball? I can show you I can beat ya. I love stuffed toy's and will pick them up after I'm done playing and pile them on the couch. I don't get in the trash, although on occasion I will see what’s for dinner on the counter. I am learning to walk nicely on my leash. I know to do my business outside, but don’t give any signals just yet to go out. I get along with the dogs and cats in my foster home. However, I do love to give a good chase to the cats, but I wouldn't hurt them. I have been around kid's ages 8 and 11. I love the attention they give me! I would love to have a fenced yard to play in and someone home with me most of the time because I hate to be by myself.”

Sherlock is a very good boy. He came to GABR after spending the past 8 years or so living in a backyard. He has done a great job of figuring out how to live indoors. He needed to gain a few pounds and now looks wonderful and handsome. Sherlock is not a barker. He is like Velcro, in that he wants to be stuck next to his people. This is why he is requiring a home with someone home most of the day. He loves to lay on the bed with you, but he is also comfortable on a pillow beside the bed. Sherlock has a lot to offer his forever family. So if you can give him all the love and belly rubs he wants and deserves please fill out the application and ask for Sherlock. #3128

MILDRED

Hi, my name is Mildred! I am between 11 & 12 years old, but my foster family couldn't tell you for sure because I am quite active. My foster family of 3 other dogs and 1 cat don't treat me any differently - you see I am deaf. My foster family is working with me on some hand signals which help. I am not food aggressive and do not counter surf.
I am not really a cuddler but will bark at you when I feel you need to give me some attention. I am house trained but have had a few accidents. Other than being deaf, my health is good and I walk really well on a lead.

JACKSON
Jackson is 10 years old and full of affection. He came to GABR when his owner could no longer care for him. He is doing very well in his foster home where he lives with many other dogs of all shapes and sizes plus cats. He is fine with kids as long as they understand how to treat an older gentleman. Jackson is house trained and comes with his own pillow. FYI he doesn’t like to share his bed, but why should he at 10? As seniors these dogs sometime get the right to have it their way.
He will rub against your leg to show his affection and has soulful eyes that just melt your heart when he looks up at you. Jackson is a true sweetheart and needs a loving, caring home for his remaining years. Don’t miss out on Jackson, he’s a great dog.

ELVIS
Elvis has been in his foster home a couple of weeks now. He is in a home with multiple kids, cats, and dogs and does just wonderful!! Even though he is 9 years old, he still enjoys his daily walks with all his buddies. Elvis is a “low rider”, so homes without a lot of stairs would be best for him.
He has proven to be such a loving, laid-back sweetie who is house-trained and crating is not needed since he is not destructive in any way. He found his way to GABR when the family in his life were divorcing and going their separate ways. He seemed to be a little upset the first few days but now is as good as new.
So if you are looking for a special angel who only wants to shower you with love and affection then Elvis is waiting for you!! Everyone loves Elvis!!

LUCK
Y **** Adoption Pending ****
***Lucky update***
Lucky has found the fountain of youth!!
She came into rescue nearly a month ago, sad, lonely, and very weak. She has seen the good life, and loves it!! She dances when she’s happy, and even runs and skips too.
She still needs work on housebreaking, but tries to go out for her business every time. She’s a really great dog, it’s sad that she’s looking for a home now.
Please don’t look away because she’s old, older dogs are amazing pets and deserve the love returned that they have given out.
Lucky is such a great dog, she lights up when she sees her foster family. She especially loves children, a typical basset.
Call about Lucky today, maybe she’ll show you the fountain of youth too!

Kelsey
Kelsey is a 7 year old, red and white male, who has claimed the hearts of many here at Guardian Angel! You see, Kelsey is an extra special boy because he is a diabetic Basset, who is 95% blind. His housemate passed away shortly after both of them came to GABR, so he deserves all the best - we love him dearly! Kelsey requires insulin shots twice a day, a pill for his liver once a day and prescription dog food. His monthly upkeep will be approximately $200 and he will need to see a vet every 6 months. This Basset even gets excited when he knows its time for his morning and evening shots!
However, Kelsey doesn’t want any pity! Kelsey uses his very keen senses of smell and hearing to navigate around the house and outdoors! If he happens to run into something, Kelsey pays it no mind, ricochets off of it, and keeps going as though nothing happened! Kelsey is housetrained, cratetrained (loves it!), great with kids and other dogs, and a great companion! Although blind, it doesn’t stop him a bit. He loves to play and go for walks! Kelsey walks with a strange gait due to neurological issues from his diabetes going untreated for over 3 years, but it doesn’t phase him one bit! Kelsey is the biggest clown you’ll ever meet and will make you laugh EVERYDAY! Please don’t overlook Kelsey because of his diabetes. Trust us, he’ll make you forget about his ailment as he’ll have you wrapped around all four of his paws in 2 seconds flat and be your own personal “cuddle bug”! Don’t miss out on Kelsey as he has such a HUGE HEART and you will regret it!

SHASTA
"Wait! Don't pass me up! I'm Shasta!! And I really want to find my forever home."
Shasta is is doing great making the adjustment from the only home she ever knew. Shasta's parents both passed away & other family members could not keep her because they own a young & very energetic large breed dog. You can't tell by looking at her, but Shasta is only 11 years old! Shasta is completely housetrained (with a dog door in her foster home) even though she is used to living outside. Shasta is cratetrained, but doesn't need to be crated. She is doing great with two small children in her foster home and would do best with children who are dog experienced. Shasta doesn't mind the other dogs, but definitely wants to be the leader. Shasta was very loved and came with many treasures from her former home (pictures of her first bath as a puppy, a copy of the classified ad from '96 where they found her (4 boys & 1 girl!), a water color painting of her, and the harmonica her dad use to play to her so she could howl & sing to her heart's content!) Shasta is opening up more and more each day and is truly a gem. Please consider giving Shasta her forever home where she can spend her golden years! You'll make many memories & have lots of laughs with this sweet little girl!

PEACHES

" In memory of our beloved 11 year old Barney...we miss you very much!
- Kathy & Steve Harding - Hoopston, IL.
This is Peaches. This sweet girl found herself needing a new home after 10 years because her owner was elderly and unable to continue to care for her. She is 10 years young and full of pep. This foster home usually fosters older dogs and we were prepared for a lay around dog, but Peaches surprised us. She loves attention, and plays with our young beagle. Peaches favorite toy is a tennis ball and will fetch (although slowly).
Peaches is such a funny, silly, loving girl. We absolutely love her personality. She came in to our house like she always lived there and instantly started playing with our other 4 dogs. Peaches still isn’t sure about the feline siblings, but mainly stares at them. She certainly doesn’t run fast enough to chase them. Peaches is well behaved, housebroken, crate-trained, and quiet (rarely barks or howls!). Don’t let her age deter you. You will fall in love with pretty Peaches.

B
RANDI

Brandi is a 9 year old, tri-colored Princess! She is a very well-mannered Basset, who is housetrained, crate trained (doesn’t need it though), good with older children, other dogs and even loves cats. However, Brandi wouldn’t mind at all being an only dog as we said, she is a definitely a Princess that believes she deserves ALL your attention, but she’d share with others if she really had to!
Brandi loves to go outside to do her sunbathing and be chauffeured in the car (and stop by the “Golden Arches”)!! Imagine this: at 9 years old, Brandi plays fetch and will continue to run after the ball, however, she doesn’t feel the need to bring it back to you,
but her foster home is working on that!! After playing, she loves to curl up in bed with you, but if not allowed to, Brandi will choose a soft, fluffy dog pillow or the couch! She is definitely a “shadow basset”, meaning wherever you go, Brandi is sure to follow and you’ll NEVER BE ALONE AGAIN!
This mature, prim and proper Princess Brandi still has quite a bit of spunk in her and will be a very Royal, uh hum, loyal companion! Call on her today!

PETEY

Petey, Petey,
“Here I am”.
A mellow, well mannered, long haired, 8 year old super loving boy.
Petey just entered his foster home where he is receiving treatment for his heartworm infection. He is submissive to his foster brother, learns the rules quickly and asks for attention by whining. This is very useful when he needs to go out, he whines and goes toward the door like a well trained, housebroken dog. Petey is crated during the night as he is new to his foster home and he likes his crate. He does not counter surf and does not chew up anything non-edible.
He barks sparingly but can howl to the mailman when “necessary”. He plays politely with stuffed toys and quickly masters new tricks if treats are involved. He loves belly rubs and gives kisses in exchange.
Petey would be a great asset to your family and would be ideal for someone who works.
He will be available for adoption at the end of July.
